Looking down I see
the face of a singing bird
how easy you sleep
Silent trees reborn
birds call for spring, their notes soar
from telephone wires
a chipmunk pauses
cheeks bulging with nuts and seeds
watching for the hawk
an emerald green
hummingbird flutters above
golden sunflower
Great White Egret lands
on bed of marsh hyacinths
brackish salt pond stills
Flash of Egret wings
White against the muddy shore
Too soon departing
Killdeer cries and runs
from nest, feigns an injured wing
chicks stay motionless
Amethyst feather
Inset on nape pigeon grey
Humble jeweled bird
cormorant spreads wings
time for pond benediction
sand hill cranes take flight
The pond, stocked with koi.
An orange circumference
already - one duck.
A sprawling green sea
Twinkling lights scooped up by birds
Singing with delight
Canopy of snow --
Even the birds are silent.
White cat vanishes.
Rocking chair rhythm,
slow, shaded front porch morning;
bird songs in the breeze.
from a naked oak
a lonesome sparrow watches
autumn, then winter
Red wine in the glass
in front of me like a bird,
perched and so pretty.
glow of morning fog
an empty eagle's nest waits
clinging to branches
Heron in the marsh
Steely gaze, lethal hunter
Still as the Buddha
Slanted morning sun
falls on a red butterfly,
wings folded to pray.
At trail's crest, new views
Shining pond, dragonfly wings
Transcendent delights
Deer pause to listen -
Lullaby of wind whispers
Woodpecker applauds
Floating butterfly
Fresh feathery wings hold her
Poised in the blue sky
The chirping of birds
heard in a forest of books
calms a troubled soul
yellow sunflowers
paradise to many birds
turn to face the sun
geese fly overhead
at the cabin dusk settles
a silent river
Rotten timber deck
sparrow's nest under rafters
all we wait for comes
black skeleton trees
winter bones against the snow
frantic geese fly south
caught yourself stumbling
I saw your shadow dance, love
with wild angel wings
Freshly fallen snow,
bird tracks layered with raccoon
scribe hieroglyphics.
feathers on the path
a wind among yellow leaves
with birds on its breath
Hummingbirds fly by
their wings constantly beating
seeking sweet nectar
I run with the fish
swim with birds and fly with toads
My dreams hold me tight
Summer birds in flight
Ducks and geese go drifting by
Stillness of the lake
the crisp morning air
acrid smell of burning leaves
distant honk of geese
I'm starting over
just like every day does
sunrise, a bird song
silence stills the lake
dragonflies reflect rainbows
lightly on paper wings
waiting for the post
the sun preening like a bird
