Branches as bridges
Critters scurry to and fro
Highways of Nature
lone cottonwood leaf
spirals in harsh summer heat
grass yellows loudly
Fall winds gust up skirts
Blowing high bright colored leaves
Exposing bare limbs.
By the banyan trunk
Shelter from the thunderstorm
Lightning still rages
the groundskeeper roots
for the stray leaf skittering
from first to second
fluttering leaves fall
creating blanket cover
now the earth can sleep
The chirping of birds
heard in a forest of books
calms a troubled soul
Twisted are my thoughts
Like branches from the forest
Yet budding with hope
saffroned winter sun
caught amid the leafless trees
sky of frosting clouds
black skeleton trees
winter bones against the snow
frantic geese fly south
Leaves swept into piles
Toddlers jump in to toss them
Happily scattered
above the waters,
over deciduous trees,
covenant rainbow
the last leaves of fall
selflessly fall giving way
to winter brethren
Golden Aspen leaves
Shimmer round the white-bark tree
Doe eyes turn and stare.
wet tea leaves settle
point to a new direction
barefoot little girl
acorns hitting hoods
falling from mighty pin oaks
striking with sharp pings
Young friends and a branch
Mangoes strewn on the red clay
Endless symphony
feathers on the path
a wind among yellow leaves
with birds on its breath
Confetti petals
Of dogwood twigs and branches
Pressed against cement
still, heat thickened air
ripe peaches languish in trees
dreaming of the fall
trees swollen with leaves
a red ball low in the sky
crimson foliage
The trees are humming,
Like they need to let off steam.
The wind train passes.
Damp leaves on slick tar
Gliding bicycle on film
Spinning and spinning
A season of change
Inevitably follows
One leaf in the wind
the crisp morning air
acrid smell of burning leaves
distant honk of geese
Dark, towering clouds
Afternoon showers bathe trees
New puddles for frogs
Fireflies dart and flash
Among the oaks and dogwoods.
Porch swing softly creaks.
lake frozen over
a falling leaf lands gently
ice cracks like lightning
Silence created
By pine needles underfoot
Softens the forest
shafts of moonlight pierce
trembling leaves on scarred limbs
the darkness falters
A long valley road
Curves under sycamore trees
Branches block the path
light touches the leaves
the calm caress of sunshine
brief eternal friends
Two tall cedar trees,
a footpath in two inches.
Family picnic.
Fall moon cold and bright
Cherry trees drop lonesome leaves -
What mountain hides you?
Astonishing oak
pointing toward paradise
heralds firmament
cold and lonely sound
the wind soughing through the pines
snow begins to fall
